My car needs a bath
It’s got 2 weeks of pollen and dust and dirt just burned onto it. It needs a bath, a claybar, a stripping, a polishing, a buffing, a waxing, and a hug.
FL Weather
Whoever says that FL weather is perfect for a Honda del Sol is full of crap. Everyday is overcast, so it looks like rain, which makes me afraid to take the top off the car. Plus with no air conditioning, during the summer you basically sweat your skin off sitting in the car.
Plus being a port city, I’m also pretty afraid of it getting stolen and put on a boat in 5 minutes flat. Everything here is constantly under construction, so it’s dusty and dirty everywhere which means you can’t leave the top off without a layer of soot landing in the car.
Oh and the sun basically cooks the poor 12 year old Honda paint right off. The rear window trim pieces have already faded substantially in the 6 months I’ve been here. Sucks…
I’m thinking of getting a vehicle storage unit for it, but those units are basically right where the hurricanes and floods hit, so I dunno how to feel about that either.
Arg…
First FL oil change and more
Decided to change the oil in the del Sol today for the first time since moving to FL. Needless to say, it was extremely dirty. Like, really bad… Black and carbony. I also used Mobile1 when I usually use Castrol Syntec, so I went back this time to what I know works best…
Looks like I may have an ailing oil-pan gasket also, or otherwise some kind of a leak around the water pump area, which could be bad. Made a little mess removing the filter so I had to run up to Advance Auto and get some Brake-Clean… Took me 1.5 hours to do a 15 minute job… Boy do I wish I had a hoist, and at the risk of sounding like my father for the past 27 years, a garage.
In other news, I feel like the valve train is getting louder than it used to be. Not sure exactly what would cause that. Valves are always kept adjusted to spec every 15k miles so that’s not it. Might just pull the valve cover some day soon and take a look inside.
Also, the car is in desperate need of a good detailing. There’s some weird crap that’s clinging to the paint that I cannot get off by hand. It almost looks like pollen, if they have that here or not I have no idea. But it’s cooked on… It comes off if I get the area wet and scrape at it with my finger nail, so I know it’s some kind of contaminant…
Maybe this week I’ll see about buying a good buffer and wool pad.
