After a few month hiatus, the Parts section of dSoc is returning. You can get there by clicking “Parts” in the upper right hand area, or by pointing your browser to http://delsolownersclub.com/parts. I’ve spent a little bit of time trying to build a more comprehensive search ability, with a way to better categorize all of the parts that are here. Now you can view by multiple categories, individual categories, and tags.
I’ve also split the master list apart to be a separate page. If anyone is bored, feel free to go through and start making individual post entries for each of the parts that are there.
The parts section is now designed to be a little like a Wiki, where any registered dSoc member can jump in and start contributing to what’s there. That means that you can add a part, and anyone can edit that part if they don’t agree with your description. You can also edit theirs, if you feel theirs is wrong. (Be good with this ability please.)
Feedback is always welcome, hope you guys figure it out okay.
Check out Mafdark’s custom Blog theme, customized specifically for his car.
How do you get one of these for yourself?
Managed to get the profile info over to the forums this weekend. Your avatars, titles, and signatures should all be showing up.
I’m going to work on getting a few other bits of info integrated; link to PM the user, etc…
Anything that you guys would like to see specifically integrated into the forums? What do you think is the most useful? I know lots of us come from using Zeroforum. What do you think makes it the best? Or what forum features do you like the best?
I’m currently working on getting all of our user info into the discussion area, like signatures and what-not. I also noticed a few glitches that need to be fixed (tags, mulitpage topics), so don’t be surprised if a few things look a little off until tomorrow.
Tonight I am going to start the long and rigorous process of transferring all of the old posts from dSoc v2 to what I consider to be their proper homes. This is going to be a manual process, so don’t be alarmed if some things look a little out of wack for a few days.
In theory there are only about 50 posts to transfer, but there are tons of images to move as well, which will involve me downloading, deleting, and reuploading to the proper location.
Some posts will also show up with me as the author. This can/will be fixed upon request. Nothing here is permanent, but the idea is for this to be the last time I need to move anything around for a long, long while. As always, questions, comments, concerns, or feedback is very much welcome, and if you’d like to contribute or participate more in the growth of dSoc, please just let me know.
Just a quick note to everyone, I privatized all of the personal profile area so that you must be logged in to the site to view it. Soon there will exist a capability to determine your own level of privatization, but until then I want to keep things closed off so no ones information is visible to the world.
I know with a typical forum layout like most of us are used to that having your profile available for everyone is typical and anticipated, but because the intent of this site is to bring things to a little more personal level, I figured it would make sense to restrict it for now.
Thoughts?
Still up late nights making this stuff all work together. Some forum updates are next on my list, mostly bringing in stuff from personal profiles. Custom titles and signatures are working, but still might need some tweaking later.
Some things I have planned this week:
Wish me luck! Oh, and welcome back James!
…and my girlfriend is starting to wonder why I’m not coming to bed anymore. :/
Bug fixes a plenty however, so her patience is not in vain. Wednesday was an exciting day here at dSoc. Hopefully things will be a little more speedy around here now, and the forums are just about as completely working as I can get them. The groups that have special forums now also have them incorporated into their groups page, so you can access a text only version of the discussions quickly and easily from inside your profile instead of having to click through to the forums and find the topics.
Frans, has been hard at work almost all day uploading a TON of pictures, manuals, and instructions into the Documentations section. There’s now over 130MB of pictures in there, and there’s plenty more to come from what I gather. (I’ve got a few myself!
)
That’s it for now! You stay classy, planet Earth!
Coming up next on my things to do list is change a few of your user names. By user name I mean the name you type in when you sign into the web site. For those of you that are affected by this problem, your accounts are only semi working but you wouldn’t know any better because from your side, that’s all you see.
Example: “Champed sol” would become “champedsol”
It’s a pain, trust me I know, but it has to be done. If you run into any issues or need more personal assistance please leave a comment here and I will contact you directly.
